Advantages of Renting

Many believe that buying a home is always the way to go and that renting is equivalent to throwing money into someone else's pocket. However, this is simply not true. Here are some of the benefits of renting.

  • Flexibility: Expecting for you job to move you to another state? Expecting a new addition to your family? Renting allows you to quickly find a place that is the right size and in the right location for you.
  • Extra cash: The monthly payments for renting a house are many times actually smaller than if you bought the same house with a mortgage.
  • No maintenance: the cost and the hassle of fixing the place up is on the landlord.
  • Savings: You can put all that money towards something other than a down payment.
  • Piece of mind: There's no buyer's remorse for renters. If in 6 months you realize you hate the city and want to move into a quiet two-room cottage in the country, you can make that happen with relative ease.

Of course, whether you want to buy a house or not is a huge decision. There is a level of common sense involved. If you are looking to settle and raise a family and you find a bargain in our bad housing market, it definitely makes to buy. However, most people would be surprised how well renting might suit their needs.
